Crippled By Procrastination? How To Overcome It

While many entrepreneurs are prone to rushing ahead boldly and without thorough planning others suffer from procrastination.

The action types often simply can’t fathom how others allow themselves to be held back by procrastination. However, some find that they are quite literally crippled by procrastination. Others may see it as pure laziness, though often it is due to a lack of inspiration and motivation. You know you should start your own business, you want to make more money and have more freedom but for some the end result can seem so far away and the obstacles and steps so many they never get started. So what can you do about it?

People naturally veer away from pain and towards pleasure. If you are procrastinating perhaps the pain isn’t as vivid as it should be and maybe the pleasure seems to far away to be tasted. However, both are likely much closer than you think if you do nothing.

Perhaps you need to make that pain a little more real. Whether you are unemployed or are working the 9-5 grind for a big corporation you must realize that the industrial era as we knew it is facing extinction, probably a lot faster than you think. This means sitting idle and hoping for the best is simply setting yourself up for disappointment and financial disaster. Go visit a soup kitchen or shelter on your lunch break or if you are making travel plans stop by a third world country. That could be you if you don’t take action.

Then get out and get inspired. If it is the beach that really moves you, take a drive. Or perhaps is traveling to somewhere completely new. If it is material items that are your real goals then don’t just dream about them or window shop. Go test drive that Ferrari, try on those designer labels and grab a cocktail or appetizer at the fanciest hot spots in town. Feel it, taste it, experience and make it real.

If you are paralyzed because you allow yourself to get distracted with other less important chores then put a stop to it now. Don’t allow yourself to go to the gym or go out to lunch or go see a movie until you have made some positive steps towards growing your business each day.

If you are simply overwhelmed by all of the tasks you see need to be taken to launch your new business or to get it to where you want it to go, stop panicking. Create short, easy, to do lists with no more than 5 items for each day. With each step taken and each small goal achieved you will find yourself effortless floating to the next.
