Executive Business Coach Chuck Boyce: Share The Wealth – Through Thought Leadership

No, the title of this article isn’t meant to reflect any Marxist or socialist beliefs.  The “wealth” I’m referring to is the wealth of knowledge we all accumulate as we continue on our professional paths.

When you become a business owner,   it’s the beginning of your real education.  Suddenly, you have to become an expert on marketing, business structures, taxes, payroll and a bevy of other subject matter in order to be a success.  That goes for doctors, lawyers, dentists or any type of entrepreneur.

In order to progress towards success, you realize you must develop a vision and a mental roadmap to take your business to where you want it to go.  You have to learn various tricks, techniques and shortcuts to reach your goals.  There are always new challenges and new obstacles – and you constantly need to find new methodologies to deal with them.

As a small business coach, I strongly encourage my clients to never stop learning.  Whether it’s through seminars, mastermind meetings and networking, or just reading the latest business books, it’s important for anyone who wants to keep their operation vital, up to date and growing to constantly be expanding their horizons.

But I also think it’s important for all of us to share what we learn along the way.  We shouldn’t just learn – we should also teach the secrets we’ve learned that have helped us succeed.

Now, I’m not saying you should drive over to the competition and tell them what you’re doing that helps you generate more profits.  I am saying, however, that engaging in what’s called “thought leadership” helps everyone in the business community – including you.

Becoming a thought leader establishes you as an innovator and transformational figure in your circle.  It also puts you at the center of the ongoing dialogue regarding current business practices – which means you also end up learning valuable information as others offer their input and experience to you.

Putting yourself in the role of thought leader also motivates you to continue pushing yourself forward.  You want to be the best – and you want to help others be the best.  The quest for excellence can be its own reward – because it makes us all want to improve ourselves in a meaningful way on a daily basis.

Thought leadership is something that “lifts the boat” on which we’re all passengers.   By sharing dynamic ideas that help others prosper with their businesses, we all become stronger, smarter and more successful.

But first we have to be willing to share – as well as listen.
