Breaking Out Of The Fishbowl!

While we often talk about those who are paralyzed by to much learning and lack action, entrepreneurs can also suffer from tunnel vision when couping themselves up for too long.

It is far too easy for many new small business owners to just roll over in the morning, log on to the web and work until way after the sun has gone down. It is too easy for this to become a daily routine, doing the same functions again and again. You may be making progress in your business, but this can also be very restricting, kill creativity and dull inspiration. The ultimate result – burn out and frustration at not realizing all of your goals.

So you get to work from home, great! Though are you really enjoying free time or if you are a hopeless workaholic, at least really enjoying your work?

If work/ life balance isn’t something that you give much thought to, at least recognize that getting out of the ‘fishbowl’ and having a more exciting and interactive work life can do miracles for your productivity and results.

By interactivity, I don’t mean video chat or social media either. Perhaps sometimes we can become to ‘efficient’ at time management. Getting out and mixing with other entrepreneurs, business owners and getting face to face with clients can do wonders to propel your business. It can help you solve challenges you are stuck on, create valuable new contacts, find true inspiration and perhaps a new muse.

What to do? Don’t leave your screen till you have arranged to go to at least 3 events in the next 6 weeks. This doesn’t even have to cost a lot. Yes, there are exciting conferences going on at $12,000 a pop, but you can probably find a local networking meeting to attend for a couple dollars in donations, a free regional association event or an upcoming seminar or trade show to go to. For those of you who really can’t drag themselves away from the screen for long, sign up for a few webinars and take your laptop to a park or beach to tune in and take some time to really contemplate on what you pick up. Do it now!
