Executive Business Coach Chuck Boyce’s Blog: How’s Your Future Vision? In my new article, “Stay Ahead of the Curve,” I talk about the need for every business owner or entrepreneur to take time to analyze the “Big Picture” about their business – and try to objectively look at the ongoing health of their business sector. Frankly, the dustbins of business history are full to the top with companies, from the biggest to the smallest, who just didn’t bother to deal with the fact that they were about to be extinct. There’s a reason your local Blockbuster is a big blue vacant space. Even with the threat of Netflix, online movie downloads and cable and satellite TV systems with on-demand video, the movie-renting conglomerate marched straight off the cliff and plunged into bankruptcy. Remember the dot-com boom of the late 90’s – and the giant crash of 2000? Every single internet start-up with a business plan was expected to waltz into instant success – which is why they had no trouble raising hundreds of millions of dollars in equity. Well, anybody see that sock puppet from Pets.com lately? Or use Whoopi Goldberg’s online currency briefly available at Flooz.com? When you don’t take the necessary steps to “stay ahead of the curve” (and I offer three important ones in my article), you risk joining the ranks of Sharper Image, Polaroid and other once-mighty brands humbled by changing times. As an executive business coach, I’m sorely tempted to write a small business guide that starts with the words, “No business is ever safe.” We can’t really know when technology, consumer tastes or the economy itself will turn everything upside down. But, if we look hard enough, we can almost always see it coming – and take the necessary steps to survive and even thrive. “Independent Executive” Chuck Boyce is an expert small business coach who can help you get the most out of your business.
