Should Charity Be Part Of Your Sales Pitch?

It seems that an increasing amount new start ups are using charity as part of their sales pitch. Is this a smart strategy for your new venture?

More and more newer small businesses are proclaiming that they are donating a percentage of their income to charity. Certainly this can help create a better image and to a certain extent make consumers feel better about spending their money with you. However, it does also add to your work load and create at least a little more liability. It means additional encoding and creates responsibility for ensuring that the specified funds actually make it to the designated charities. Plus the last thing you want is to find out you are associated with a charity which becomes involved in a scandal because they are not using donations appropriately.

There are definitely pluses for incorporating charity in your business and obviously there is a certainly amount of social responsibility that comes along with creating a successful business. However, perhaps there are others ways that your organization can do its part for the community and those in need, which can have a direct impact and which will bolster your brand. Though of course the most important thing is to make sure that you are doing it for the right reasons.
