Should You Partner Up To Get Your Start Up Launched?It is often very tempting to reach out for partners when trying to launch a new business idea to get your project moving faster but is this really a smart idea? Often the attraction to seeking out partners for a new business is to gain access to additional capital. This may seem necessary at the time or at least appealing if you believe that you need it to kick off with a big splash. However, if you are creative and resourceful enough you will likely find other ways to speed along your start up. The problem with bringing in a financial partner is that it often means giving up a lot of control. This can often mean losing that critical edge which makes your product or service stand out as your own. Choosing a partner who is a friend or family member can get even more complicated. This doesn’t mean that you absolutely should not seek out seed money and venture capital, just be cautious about who you partner up with and ensure that you have solid written agreements in place. Otherwise you may find that you run into major issues just when things start taking off. Though really you should never take on a partner for financial benefits alone. However, if you can partner with someone who can bring a lot of extra business experience and powerful connections to the table then this may well more than pay off. Weigh your options carefully but don’t let the lack of a partner hold you back.
